On the ferry from Opua to Russell. A small historic town where the early Maori inhabitants and the whalers, sailors, missionaries and great colonial powers all left their mark on this cradle of early settlement. Captain Cook came ashore here in 1769 and in the Russell museum you find a nice 1 : 5 scale model of the Endeavour.
