In Peru the animals of the highlands include members of the South American Camelids: the llama, alpaca, guanaco and vicuña.
This one in the picture is a VICUÑA, only found in the wild. It’s the smallest of the four and though it has never been domesticated
it is sometimes caught and sheared for its wool, wich is the finest in the world. It produces wool per shearing five times during the life
of the animal. Here we were visiting a factory where a coat of vicuña cost 5000 $. Because of this high value vicuñas are protected.
